Posterior sternoclavicular joint dislocation
Can J Surg, Vol. 51, No. 1, February 2008
N. Hoekzema, M. Torchia, M. Adkins, S.D. Cassivi
Traumatic sternoclavicular joint dislo- cation is an uncommon condition whose diagnosis is often missed. The posterior version of this dislocation has been associated with multiple complica- tions, including respiratory compromise, vascular injury, brachial plexopathy, pneu- mothorax, dysphagia and even death, and should be managed by timely closed or open reduction. Owing to the rarity of this injury, there is a relative lack of famil- iarity with the diagnosis, surgical anatomy and treatment options.
