The vast majority of residents receive very limited exposure to the critical business topic of surgical coding and reimbursement. In the current world of healthcare, a surgeon is not paid for the work performed, but for their documentation. So residents develop great skills in surgery, but are not prepared to start their career by earning their living when they leave their residency.
